» «My current mattress has deep impressions where my wife & I sleep and a hump in the middle. Will your mattresses do the same thing?
The problem with your mattress is caused by the polyurethane foam inside it. It is mostly air with very little substance and resiliency. Latex is natural foam rubber and like a rubber ball bounces, it comes right back up to flat when you get out of bed. There is no polyurethane foam in Eco-Cloud mattresses.
What's the difference between all latex and latex with springs?
Springs are, well, springier. There’s more energy in the mattress. More bounce. An all latex mattress is not dead like memory foam as it has its own inherent springiness, but compared to latex with springs it has a more grounded feel. There is also a difference in isolation of motion. Our springs are pocketed coils and provide good isolation, but all latex enhances that aspect of the mattresses feel because you have millions of cells of latex adjusting to your motion.
Which is better?
It depends on the individual. Most of us are used to sleeping on a mattress with springs, so springs with latex will feel more familiar at first. However if you take your time testing, you may find that you prefer the all latex feel.
I'm allergic to latex. Should I be concerned about latex in a mattress?
The latex in our mattresses is encapsulated in layers of cotton, wool and more cotton. It never touches your skin and therefore should not affect you in any way. If you don’t want to sleep on a mattress with latex, we have a couple of options that use organic cotton batting for padding.
All of these mattresses feel so good. How can I tell which one is right for me?
Take your time testing. Try them in whatever position you sleep in. If you are a side sleeper, make sure that you don’t feel any excessive pressure on your shoulder or hip. If you are a tummy sleeper make sure you feel sufficient support when you are lying on your stomach. Trust your body. It’s what you feel that counts. Remember that we can adjust the firmness in your home after you’ve slept on it for a couple of weeks.
Why should I buy an organic mattress?
An organic mattress will not have any polyurethane foam, so it will not off gas methyl chloride or formaldehyde, etc. It will not develop a valley where you sleep, because latex is incredibly resilient. It will not have fire retardants or fire blockers, so you will not be breathing any potentially harmful chemicals over the years you sleep on the mattress. It will be more supportive than a conventional mattress because unlike polyurethane foam that settles where you sleep, latex pushes back for excellent back support. The organic wool will wick away perspiration while you sleep and it will evaporate when you are not in bed. Latex is molded with thousands of small holes that contain air. When you move you are actually pumping air through the mattress. It will not reflect your body heat like memory foam.
How long will these mattresses last?
Based on our experience we think that you should get 15 to 20 years of comfortable sleep from your Eco-Cloud organic mattress. Latex is the most durable padding material for a mattress. Springs are made of high tensile tempered steel and will also last a very long time. People often look at their mattress and see the valley where they have been sleeping and think their springs are wearing out. It’s not the springs. It’s the polyurethane foam that has settled that causes the dip in your old mattress.
What's the difference between latex and memory foam?
Memory foam is a special type of polyurethane foam that will mold to your body as your body temperature warms it. Keetsa memory foam is a blend of polyurethane, castor bean oil and green tea leaf extract. Latex is a natural product made from the milk sap of the rubber tree.
What about dust mites and allergies?
Dust mites cannot live in latex. In nature the milk sap runs under the bark of the tree and protects the tree from insects. Rubber trees never need to be sprayed with pesticides because they have built in protection. At home, dust mites, although microscopic in size, are members of the spider family find latex to be naturally inhabitable.
Do your mattresses work on adjustable beds?
Latex is extremely pliable and is the best material for an adjustable bed. We offer the Leggett & Platt line of adjustable beds.
Can you make custom sizes for boats and trailers and built ins?
Yes we can. If you send us a template of the space we can make you a customized mattress.
Are your mattresses returnable?
Yes, they are returnable with a 15% handling fee on the mattress price, however we offer a great comfort guarantee. You can test your mattress at home up to three months. We encourage you to try it for a couple of weeks and if you find that it is too firm or too soft we will come to your home and change the latex to adjust the comfort to your needs. There is no charge for the latex unless you choose a dual firmness layer. There is a $100 charge for that option. If you are out of the bay area, we will ship you a layer of a different firmness and you can send us the layer that it replaces. Delivery and pickup charges are not included in our return policy.
Will there be a difference in the quality of sleep I experience when I get an organic mattress?
Definitely, because latex is both pressure relieving and supportive you should find that your tossing and turning is reduced and consequently you will spend more time in the restorative stage of sleep and awake refreshed and invigorated.
Is latex sustainable?
Rubber trees will produce latex for 20 years. When they cease producing they are harvested for furniture and new ones are planted. They grow quickly and begin to produce latex in five years.
How is your warranty handled?
Eco-Cloud organic mattresses come with a 10 year non-prorated warranty. If your mattress dips more than one inch we will replace any component that is causing the problem. If you have any issues please send us a digital picture of your mattress to sales@natmatt.wpengine.com
Do you sell eco friendly furniture?
Yes, we carry solid wood beds, night stands, chests & dressers from Pacific Rim Woodworking, Bedworks of Maine, Vermont Furniture Design and Dapwood.
Is there any way to adjust the firmness of your mattresses in the future?
There certainly is. Our organic mattresses that are all latex consist of different layers of varying densities. You can simply reposition the existing layers to change the feel of the mattress. This is not an option with our spring with latex mattresses, however if you want to purchase a layer of latex from us after your three month comfort exchange period is over, we will sell latex to you at about our cost. Our overarching desire is that you will be a happy customer for many years to come.
Do your mattresses sleep warm?
Eco-Cloud mattresses are wonderfully breathable. Latex is molded with thousands of pin core holes. There is air in the holes, so when you move you are actually pumping air through the mattress. You also have great air flow in the organic wool above the latex. Latex should not be confused with memory foam. Memory foam tends to reflect the body heat back to the sleeper.
Should we use a mattress pad?
Eco-Cloud mattresses have removable zipper covers that can be removed for airing out. Please do not put your cover in a washing machine as you will probably shrink it and also felt the wool. We carry Coyuchi organic cotton mattress pads that will not change the feel of the mattress and offer a first line of protection for your mattress. We also make organic wool protectors that will protect your mattress from spills and other messy accidents.
Is the latex in your mattresses organic?
We use both all natural Talalay latex and certified organic Dunlop latex in our mattresses. For latex to be certified organic the forest where the rubber trees are grown must be certified by a third party organization that they have not been sprayed with pesticides. At the present time there are manufacturers of latex in India and Sri Lanka that have certified organic latex. None of the forests that produce the raw latex used in all natural Talalay latex have been certified. However, because in nature the latex, which is a white viscous liquid that runs under the bark of the rubber trees, is a natural insect repellent, it serves to protect the trees from infestation and therefore no producer of latex sprays their trees. It would be a waste of money to do so and is not necessary due to the nature of latex itself.
Can you give us advice on moving our mattress?
Your mattress should be placed in a plastic bag and if possible a mattress carton. Please call us at 415 459 2221 if you need either or both. We do not glue the latex to the springs or the separate layers together so you may experience shifting of the latex when the mattress is turned on its side. When you unpack it just unzip the cover and reposition whatever has shifted and zip it back up. It’s easy to do.
Do you use graphite infused latex?
No, we do not use graphite infused latex as it adds 30% to the weight of a latex mattress and because latex tends to dry over the years, the sleeper may be exposed to graphite dust which can cause a lung disease called graphitosis which is a form of pneumoconiasis.
